Price Guide

Imported Golden British Shorthair/longhair may be quite expensive in Australia for several reasons:

  • Import Costs: Breeding cats are often imported from top breeders overseas, which adds significant shipping, quarantine, and legal fees. The longer journey and safety measures for transporting them also increase the cost.

  • Rare and Unique Colors: Golden British Shorthairs are a relatively rare breed with special coat colors, such as Black Golden Shaded or Chocolate Golden, which are harder to breed and more sought after, making them more expensive.

  • High-Quality Breeding: The top breeders ensure healthy, well-socialized, and high-quality kittens. They often invest in top-tier breeding programs, genetics, and veterinary care, which adds to the cost.

  • Limited Supply: Due to the breed’s popularity and demand, the number of kittens available is often limited. This scarcity can drive up prices.

  • Health and Vaccinations: The cost of veterinary care, including vaccinations, health checks, and early socialization, is included in the price. Breeders in Australia ensure that the kittens are healthy and ready for adoption, which also factors into the overall price.

  • Australian Market: The pet industry in Australia is highly regulated, and breeders must comply with strict laws to ensure ethical practices. These regulations, along with import taxes, can make the cost of kittens higher than in other countries.

  • Specialized Care: Breeders put a lot of time and effort into raising these kittens, providing the best care, training, and socialization to ensure they grow into well-adjusted pets, which also increases the cost.

Why Are Some Cats More Expensive Than Others?

The pricing of our cats is influenced by both the rarity and genetic complexity of their coat colors, as well as their structure and overall quality. The following rare colors with high quality may be more expensive than others:

BY12 with Cute Face (Chocolate Golden Shaded): This is a rare variation within the Golden Shaded family. It has a beautiful gradient effect, with a soft chocolate color. The darker brown tips give the Chocolate Golden Shaded its rich golden appearance, making it brighter and more elegant than the standard Black Golden Shaded.

CY11-12 with Cute Face (Lilac Golden Shaded): This color is even rarer than BY12 due to its genetic complexity. Because of its rarity, we only have a few kittens each year. The unique genetic trait, combined with its luxurious appearance, makes it one of the most expensive.

AY12 with Cute Face (Blue Golden Shaded): Among the Golden Shaded types, AY12 is very rare, typically showcasing a creamy caramel color. It has a very elegant appearance.

  • If the new owner does not consult the breeder or provide immediate veterinary care, as outlined in contract.

  • It’s important to recognize that non-genetic hereditary diseases are often linked to a variety of factors, including stress, sudden changes in environment, or exposure to other animals that may cause emotional or physical distress to the kitten.( For example, while grooming or socializing is beneficial, excessive handling or stressful situations can negatively affect a young cat's immune system, potentially leading to health issues. In such cases, the cattery is not liable for the condition, as it is seen as being within the owner’s control.)

  • To ensure the well-being of the kitten, it's recommended to maintain a calm and stable environment, avoiding stressful situations and unfamiliar animals that could potentially lead to such complications. This proactive approach not only helps prevent health issues but also strengthens the bond between the kitten and its owner.

  • Owners with a history of allergies should take the necessary precautions and prepare themselves before getting a kitten. Minors must obtain parental consent and be accompanied by a parent or guardian when making a purchase.
